Looking For Online Thermal Loss Calculator Tool

Inside temp + outside ambient temp versus inside wall temp + outside wall temp and Delta T values. Expressed in BTU's.

Hoping a NERD may have run across an online calculator. Yeah, I'm old, lazy and grouchy so don't criticize.

Thank

You

  • If this website doesn't help, I can dig further: Engineering toolbox. I think I may be able to find the one for building structures (was on a machine that crashed). I don't know if that will directly correspond. ISTR, it expressed loss or gain in temperature. From that, one could derive the needed BTU to add/gain to reach a set temp.

Isn't there a direct number to call into a chiller company, asking for needed size of one of their units for a given space? :h That may be easier and more impirical than running your own calculations.
  • Hi Matt,

Yeah that's the problem - This for six massive made in Mexico refrigeration and freezer cooling units and the only "R" they understand is "Retrograde". Doing three dozen or more differential calculations is not how I had originally planned to spend tomorrow. And my scientific calculator is on the blink (possum), and the service just denied the fourth calculator website download. I thought maybe a tool would be easier.

Two thousand US Dollars in electrical power per month is not a paltry sum. The nearest foam board insulation is a thousand mile round trip, and the space inside a Dodge stake bed dually is just so big. Too thick or too thin incurs embarrassing penalties. So would a second (unneeded) trip.

Yes, I realize about the swing double glass doors, tightness, yadda, seal, yadda, customer leaving door open, yadda. Going to LED interior lighting getting rid of heat manufacturing fluorescent.

But my internet access is only valid 0930 = 1730 hours. Then TelMex and 5 bytes per hour download.

Your interest and help is most appreciated.
  • Mex,

At one job I had access to a device that would report the R-value of a wall, but I have never seen the calculation done except by add the R-values of the components.

I'm not completely sure that what you want to do can be done. If one can, it would be nice to know.

I might search more but I get to surf while DW drives and we just crossed into a different state. I don't know what I will have for wire tonight.

    Matt
