We also do a fair amount of dry camping.
For #1 it is just a very quick flush, almost no water. For #2 there is no substitute for water. We have founf the best way is to PREFILL the bowl with a good amount of water so it looks like a normal toilet at home, and then just a quick flush makes evething woosh down. Ours is a straight drop to the tank, but with 2 bends like you have, you definately need to use water.
We never come close to filling the black tank, grey is another story. To even it out a bit we will do the dishers in washtubs set in the sink, then dump the wash tubs full of soapy water down the toilet to the black tank.
