Macerator pump not working???

Hi everyone,

Just purchased a new/used Roadtrek this week, but when we were at the dealer lot the tech tried to show us how to use the macerator to empty tanks. They were a 1/3 full at that time. No large noise or anything. He said it was ok and to wait until 2/3 full to dump.

SO here we are 9 days later and adding water to holding black :?tank. Ready to dump and it is trickling out. We have ready the manuals and stuff, following everything, but can't figure if the pump is even working.. Really need advise... Help!
  • I have spoken to Roadtrek and it seems that when I purchased it (two weeks ago) the pump was already broken, warranty department has stated that the blades probably broke off. I am in the process of getting the RV dealer to own up to the broken part originally. Now I have to get it repaired. I can say that at least Roadtrek acknowledged they will fix it. I am just concerned on how long I can keep holding the black water in the tank. I do have chemicals. I am praying it gets fixed by this Friday.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions.. I know if the future I will be checking back.

How else can we empty the tank?

A photo of the valve assembly above the pump would help but often you will find there is a standard 3" Bayonet type fitting there.. Now this is GOING TO BE MESSY so get a bucket in posiotion.. You will close the dump valve. this is important (NOTE: If you just turned on the pump and did not open the valve.. that's your problem) And wearing gloves (Latex, nitril or Rubber) and taking care cause there is going to be a mess, The king you need bleach to clean up, Disconnect the 3" inlet hose to the maceratgor.. use a standard 3" stinky Slinkey to dump. YOu may then remove, steam clean and repair the pump.
  • I have to admit that the first time that I used my macerator pump, it didn't work. I brought it home and prepared to take it to the dealer to get it fixed.

Decided to check and found out that the power was off. Turned it on and it worked fine.

The simplest things should be checked first.
  • A picture would help or what brand of macerator you are using, I take it you have it plugged into a source of power?

The information is out there, all you have to do is let it in.
  • Macerators are loud. If you hear the motor running faintly then likely the impeller has come loose or the pump head is broken (guess that's the same thing). Since you bought it with semi-full tanks (why did you do that?), take it back to the dealer and demand that they show you how to dump the tanks and prove it wasn't dead when you bought it. Not familiar with the coach but one would assume it has a 3" dump valve?
  • Macerators need routine maintenance. Disassembly, cleaning, inspection and replacing the impeller if needed.

Hair gets wrapped around the shaft. Never run dry.

It's pretty noisey when working right.

You should also have to open a valve.
  • Thank you. The pump make a very faint sound. Not loud like videos we have seen. Fuse good, turned knob turns easily. How else can we clean out the tank?
  • You should hear the macerator pump running when you press the button located in the driver door jam.
Some say not to run the pump when dry.
First check the fuse for the macerator in the fuse panel. Mine is a 20 amp (yellow) fuse.
Second if it is good, there is a rod with a black knob next to the dump valve handles. Operate it, (push in) and turn CLOCKWISE. This may release a stuck impeller.

    Good luck.
