Macerator pumps

I am considering buying a Flojet 18555000A macerator pump. But many owners say they have had problems.

A 120-volt pump might be better. But they look to be expensive.

A pump that attaches directly to the black-tank outlet looks to be the handiest.

What pump (12 volt or 120 volt) have you used and found satisfactory?

All comments that are based on your experience are welcome.

I bought a FloJet macerator back in 2006, used it constantly for a dozen years and only rebuilt it once to add a new impeller. I never use campground dump stations, always have serviced the tanks at home using the macerator. A series of pics starts here - click on "i" at the top right of any pic for a text description.

I keep my macerator pump handy for those rare times when I come home without emptying my tanks first. I connect the end of the pump directly to the 3" sewer hose and pump through a 3/4" garden hose into a slop sink in my garage. It's quick and a lot easier than the old bucket method. It keeps up with and even gets ahead of the blasters in the tanks flushing everything toward the drains. If I want the tank to fill, I have to stop the pump. The impeller has a hard time dealing with hair and I'll use my needlenose pliers to untangle and remove it before storing it away for the next time. They're very handy!
Do you know the make and model of the pump?

  • Bought a Flojet portable to pump waste tanks 75' with a 2' rise.
10 minutes pumping/motor very warm...shut down to cool then pumped another 10 minutes. 75' thru 3/4" hose 128 gallons----sure beat alternative of dragging a tote back/forth.

That was in 2008..still have it, still use it and have not had to repair it.
Have dissassembled to clean twice but that is no big deal either
