Magic Chef Oven heats to 450 degrees regardless of setting

I'm suspecting that the gas valve for the oven is likely borked, but my problem is two fold.

1.) The pilot will not stay lit unless I light it and then hold it in while starting the burner.

2.) The oven's thermostat doesn't work, period. You can set it to 265 degrees and it will heat up to 450 or higher sometimes.

So, am I correct in assuming that the valve assembly for the oven part of the range has simply gone bad?

Your oven thermostat is bad which is part of the oven control valve. Easy to change other than running the thermo bulb into the oven cavity. The control valve are not adjustable if oven is off by more than 50 degrees so since it goes right to 450 it's bad. Most appliance part store or RV dealers can order one for you if you give them the Model and Serial number.

Thanks, I suspected as much, I'll pop by our local parts shop with the info and get what's needed.

Yes sound like it be careful propane is nothing to mess with you might want check your regulator on the propane tanks first, but you should get it checked out I would hate to see ya blow up the camper.

The issue is on my 2006 Heartland Bighorn. Only thing that is having issues is the range, and then the only big issue is the oven, the stove burners are working fine, as are all other propane appliances.

The Truck Camper has a 40 year old Coleman Range in it, it still works properly, 40 years later.
