Magic Chef Oven Problem

Hello everybody,
I recently bought a 83 Travelcraft rv, that I am proud to call home. I have slowly been figuring out all the bells and whistles. Upon trying to use the oven for the first time I came across the following problem. I have to turn the knob slightly past pilot to light the pilot light. after it is lit the light is too weak to project the flame past the first slot in the pilot burner into the second area (that holds what i believe is called the thermocoupler)until it's cranked to around 400-500 degrees. at this point the flame exiting the pilot light flame is large enough to touch the thermocoupler and the main burner will light. If I turn the tempature down the pilot light will not reach the thermocoupler and the stove shuts off. Stove is working fine. I have no Idea why this wont work. I cleaned out the piolot light, It didnt change a thing. Also Im unable to find any adjustment for this any advice would be greatly apriciated. thanks Nathan

  • You cannot move the thermo coupler. It goes into a slot just past the piolt burner. It is held in by a set screw.
  • Sounds like a simple alignment issue. See if you can remove the bottom pan that is above the burner. Press backwards and lift. If you can there is probably a heat shield above the flames that will come off easily. Once you get a clear look at the thermocouple and flame orofice you may be able to simply push the thermo couple over the flame more.
  • I once bought an older trailer that had the same problem. The issue was too much carbon on the pilot and thermocouple. I put a heavy rag under the parts and washed them down with automotive carburetor cleaner. After that we used the trailer for about 6 years and never had a problem again.

    Good luck,
    Scott
