Magnetic propulsion: can they make an RV generator?

I recall many years ago someone came up with as I recall "Glass Transistors" or some such. non crystaline.. Of course they did not work but they released the news on a Friday AM.. And not one science reporter was invited to the news conference. So by the time the scientists debunked it Monday AM. They had made a killing in the stock market.
