From your post, it appears you have a PENGUIN model. Older Penguin's, if the fan motor failed under warranty, Dometic replaced the complete upper unit, as Dometic did not want to pay the 2.5 hours labor to replace the fan motor. They would rather pay the 1.0 hour labor to replace the complete upper unit. Due to the reason's you found out. Doug
LOL! I know. I guess if I had to do it all over again, and the jury is still out on this, I would have replaced the whole unit.
This is a 2005 5th wheel. Probably should have, but meh.
Right now got up on the roof just as the hot Texas sun was about to come over the trees and got some JB Weld Steel Stick, and used one stick on each of the broken stud areas. Fortunately, the stabilizer bolt was intact and I was able to tighten it down. The little bit of JB Weld that I had last night must have been too old because this new stuff I kneaded it for about two minutes, pushed it on and in less than 5 minutes, was strong enough to hold up the entire fan motor on one stud.
I have them both on there. Package says will be hard enough to drill through in one hour. Due to the fact that this will receive a lot of vibration, I am going to give it about two hours to cure. While I am doing that, I am getting everything else ready. I only took a short break right now to update.
I do have some questions though about full unit replacements that maybe some of you experts can answer.
1. If I am buying a new Dometic unit, does it come with the power box that goes inside the ceiling of the unit?
2. I see the term ductless and ducted units. This is the only AC I have and we have ducts. So does that mean there are two different types of AC units that you can buy?
3. Just as a backup, I have been online shopping for a replacement unit in case my fan motor replacement doesn't fix this. I saw the Dometic Brisk II. Would that work for my RV?
Many thanks. I know that my post count is not that high, but I really haven't had many issues since I joined the site. This is probably the biggest one so far.
