Mean Well RSP-1500-15 Power Supply

I'll get to the point. Landyacht mentioned that this supply needs 17A. I don't see anything in a specs that mention this. Also, the specs say it's PF corrected. What am I missing? Thanks.

Specs
Mean Well RSP-1500-15

Yeah, that, and it says it is only 750 watts. boooooo!

But two rsp-500-15's and that shottkey rectifier bridge would cost the same or more with shipping.
Or two MegaWatt S-400-12's (36A cont, 41A peak) for $120 total.

Look at the RSP-1000-15 instead. That should be good for 80 +amps DC since my rsp-500-15 will do 40.94 amps DC until battery voltage rises to within 0.3v of what I set the voltage at before connecting it to the battery.

You probably could get one of those Shottkeys diodes and perhaps run your Megawatt in parallel with it on the same circuit for 110 amps into that 740 AH L16 bank.

Oh, great idea! Damn, it's $270 on Mouser.

  • Voltage is 120 at the power supply but the MH is plugged into a 15A circuit. So if I use ken's very handy calculations I'm looking at 15.12A from the Mean Well. Just a bit too much from that circuit.

You apparently are missing where it says "17A/115VAC" and "Built-in active PFC function" on the PDF you linked.
Silly me! I did a search and saw it right in front of me. Wow. Thanks guys. Kind of sucks in a way though. I don't think the MH is on a 20A circuit BUT the voltage is 122. I'll have to check.
  • The 15 A version has an output power rating of 1500W.

    1500/0.87 (efficiency rating) = 1724W in power.

1724W/0.95 (typical power factor) = 1815 VA input apparent power.

    1815 VA/115 V = 15.78 amps, which is pretty close to the 17 A (typical) specification.
