I'm putting 300W of solar on the roof in the coming days. That's really the biggest solution. But for clouds, shade, etc. I still need something I can count on for charging from the Onan genset. If I really want to optimize it, it seems I'd be better off slapping the WFCO back into the trunk, and mounting a power supply or pot-adjusted PM3 up near the batteries. Which would only be powered up and controlled manually. Think of it as a clamp on charger, except it would be hard wired to the batteries.
I see PM3-55's for $110 shipped on ebay. I am leaning that direction.
My alternative would be to buy a PD or IOTA and mount it close to the batteries. It would be a lot better than my present situation.
Both options fit the budget. The tinkerer/optimizer in me likes the separate special purpose charger.
