jrnyman is close to having to either poop, or get off the pot. All the info is pretty much in, he just needs to decide which to do.
You don't have to diddle with the pot... you can diddle with the final charge voltage on an adjustable voltage Charge controller too off of your solar panels to top charge, and if you need to equalize charge, a quick wiring change from a single panel straight to the batteries while monitoring the SG of the battery for a few hours, should get you the same results. Your panels can EQ charge for you too, if need be, read landyacht318's thread on the "screwy 31" to learn how.
Of course, as LY found out, trying to top charge daily, really helped keep the need to EQ charge away, or performed much less frequently. He did that by bumping up the daily voltage the group 31 saw to 15.0V or perhaps a bit more, because the battery manufacturer said it needed 15.3V daily. Your brand of battery may have lower top charge voltage requirements, see the manufacturer of your batteries, and their recommendations for daily top charge voltage required. A SG reading daily will confirm if you are holding ground or losing SG over a couple of weeks, if so, bump up the Vabs to get the SG to do a better job of holding and getting a better daily top charge.
