Mex says deep cycle AGMs need to be recharged at a 20% of Bank AH rate even if they are not Lifelines (which do specify that). My AGMs are not that brand, and no mention is made of a minimum charg...

Regular AGM are a "starved acid" design.
Telecom jars are a "surplus acid" design. That means they act in a manner some what slanted towards a flooded jar. I expect the telecom units have some what higher internal resistance.
I got mine because "the price was right" i.e. I could afford to buy them. They are meeting my needs. I would love to go "firefly".
