Hi MrWizard,
I'd disagree and say that an autoformer is ZERO help with a small generator.MrWizard wrote:

actually i agreed with that - pianotunaNomad IIIHi MrWizard,

- MrWizardModeratorautotransformer corrects for low line voltage, raise voltage and prevent damage to the A/C etc..
MicroAir is a special electronic soft start device that allows for starting the A/C with out the huge generator surge normally needed
two different applications
and while the Microair still helps the A/C no matter what the 110v input source is
the autoformer is NO help to a small generator situation
once you reach the power limit of the generator, that is all there is - jharrellExplorerI have one works as advertised, easy install, no issues in the last two years, much lower startup surge, can start my A/C off my Magnum Inverter if I want.

Soundguy, do you have ACTUAL experience, or did you just want to say something?
Well E-X-C-U-S-E ME for offering to help. :S
And if it helps any I did have extensive email dialogue with the chief design engineer of the Micro-Air Easy Start Soft Starter and understand fully the design concept and execution. ;) - pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
I have the microair unit installed. It is much easier on the demands of starting the roof air. I wish the time delay for the initial start of the compressor were a little longer. Other than that, I'm a happy camper.
Before I had the microair, my autoformer would boost the voltage in "mid start". Now, with the same shore power supply the autoformer doesn't boost in mid start.
When running on a Yamaha 2800 sIEB I can run in eco mode (but I could do that before with the hybrid inverter/charger in the mix)
If I had to choose between the autoformer and the microair I'd pick the autoformer every time.
The bottom line is the microair works as advertised. I'm not certain I'd buy one again because I prefer the autoformer. - 2oldmanExplorer IILooks like some actual users here. Although I personally do not have actual experience, I do have experience in searching for relevant posts.
- LwiddisExplorer IIThat's not very nice, gmc.
