Monitor Panel Problem

My panel displays the status of the battery, fresh, gray and black water tanks. All indicators are shown as from one to five red lights. One light means the tank is empty, two lights means 1/4 full, etc.,. The five lights (or fewer) light up when the gray water button is pressed or the black water button is pressed and so on.

All functions are working fine, except for the gray water tank. The first light comes on, indicating an empty tank, but that's true even when the tank is certainly nearly full. In other words, the 1/4 and 1/2 and so on lights never come on.

Any ideas about what went wrong and how to fix it would be most welcome.

Thanks, Pete
  • Dirty sensors give false readings when the tank is empty. Yours are just not working.

Sounds like a sensor wiring problem.
  • Usually they read full when they are not. Yours is backwards. I'd look at the actual wired where they connect to the tank and see if they got pulled off.
  • Go back to the manual way to read tank levels. If toilet backed up black tank full, water backed up into shower gray tank full.
  • SeeLevel sensors are rather easy to install, and very dependable. They give tank readings in %. Battery, tenths of volts.

  • In general the black and gray water sensors are about 100% unreliable. They get crud built up on the sensor in the tank. Aggressive tank cleaning may help.

And if you are depending on the battery get a good battery monitor.
  • Your problem is backwards from most, in that it shows empty all the time instead of full all the time (as with dirty probes).

I think that means you have lost the positive wire to the "upper" sensor probes on that tank.
  • Recently did an 11 week road trip and the gray tank never went below 3/4. Next to the last stop I did a Geo on the gray and then a good drain and the tank indicates 1 light.

  • Trailer water/waste/electric status lights that don’t work. How unusual! lol
