Mounting solar panels side-to-side vs front-to-back

I'm looking at adding a few solar panels to our mh roof and I found some at a good price but they only fit on my roof if I mount them side-to-side. I would have preferred mounting them front-to-back ...

Yes, and whether you'll be tilting, need room for more in the future and can still walk on the roof.

One benefit from lots of panels is shade for your roof. Possibly prolongs its life.
