Mounting your Generator

Has anyone mounted their generator in the front storage compartment of their 5er? How hard would it be to safely modify the compartment? trying to decide where the best place for it is.
  • It's not wise to run it in a compartment ... All the built in gens are put in a place that is vented outside. Intake/exhaust and heat venting outside.. The area is sealed from the interior so CO gasses are not put into the rig...
  • There are boxes made from galvanized steel, and vented doors made for this purpose. A gen set in a fifth wheel is very handy.
Care must be taken to see that the exhaust is vented properly. What kind of gen are you thinking about? Gas, propane?
  • The intention was to get input back from him as to whether he wanted to run it in there or not. That question needs to be answered before offering any further input.
  • Hi,

I'd far rather see you add a rack at the back. This can be done by adding a trailer hitch. The racks are about $100.
  • Yes it's been done, you can put it on a sliding drawer to use it out side
    Or
Build a box with cooling fans and extended exhaust, so the exhaust is outside underneath the fiver

We had this arrangement on our old TT. Just yesterday I welded a receiver hitch on the back of my FW to be able to do the same. Far safer than running a generator in a front compartment!
  • My 5th wheel front compartment is designed for a generator. Its basically a metal box with wiring already done for the generator. I also would like to know how they are mounted/installed? How is the exhaust handled? Does the hatch door have to be opened for it to run? Thanks.
  • I was thinking more for storage. I have mounted it to a receiver hitch rack on my old TT. But it was bounced around to much. I also was thinking i would get a bigger gas powered one.
  • Mount it on the pinbox and put a BBQ cover over it.. carried a Champion 3500/4000 that way for several years, now a Yamaha 2400 (much quieter) ..

Looks good.. works fine.. lasts a long time..
