- MrWizardModeratorback about 1972, i had a friend that owned one of these
he was in the army and built it from 'legal bought' parts
it worked great until it got stuck in a river bank sink hole and the engine died while trying to get out 'he was driving'
we had to hike back to the country road and then flag down a passing truck to hitch a ride, then go back with another vehicle and pull the jeep out of the river
something leaked and water got into the crankcase "engine tear down and rebuild"RoyB wrote:
This was standard issue for the 1950s M38 series jeeps.
They had floats and hoses attached to the carb air intake and exhaust. My 1952 M38 Jeep was suppose to go completely underwater but I was too chicken to try it out haha...
You can see the air intake setup here in this google photo..
Roy Ken - SaltiDawgExplorerAs a retired US Navy Submariner, I can assure you that a snorkel air induction and exhaust has possibilities. :C

Roy Ken - John_JoeyExplorerFunny how we lost the meaning of the word "queer." Back in 1936 you could use that word freely to write about a submarine car without being chastised for it. Wonder if he had a "gay" time writing that article back in 1936.

- Golden_HVACExplorerI found this vacume cleaner powered plane a little more interesting that that car. It was built by a Jr High school class in Long Beach CA in 1929, well before any jet planes had been built, but basically with a jet motor, or at least without propellers.
