Hi,
I agree with Jim. Find out how much solar you want to have, then run the numbers PWM vs MPPT. Do what ever fits the budget. Just plan for worst case on the power needed.
It is clear to me, that if I upgrade, I'll go to poly panels over mono. That, in my opinion, makes a bigger difference than pwm to mppt.
The exception would be where you want ever last erg out of the system because of lack of space on the roof. Then, generally, MPPT would harvest a bit more energy.
I, by good luck, ended up with wonderful system. The only mistake I made was that I can not expand the system to get more watts as I maxed out the controller.
The folks at technomedia have added 800 watts of solar and they have an LI battery bank. They did spend $4000 on 800 watts, which to me is nutty as a fruit cake.
