Mushy Floor

So I have a 2016 Jayco and under the large slide out, the flooring has become soft under the linoleum flooring at one end of the slide. Does anyone have any background in how to repair this? Who to take it to that is not going to kill my bank? I just don’t want it to get any worse than it is.

  • Well, a soft floor obviously means a leak occurred. This probably happened over the 9 years of so of ownership depending on your storage, maintenance, and other rv related habits...

Since you are finding the soft floor now, all you can do is start tearing into it bit by bit until you get to a point where it's not soft anymore..  How much, what it takes to fix is up to what you find..

To pay someone to do that will be a very $$ job...  So you will have to weight the value of a 9 year old rig to what it'll cost you to have it fixed.. (either yourself, or pay someone else).

If you are a DIY person and like the rig, then it might be worth your time to check things out..  Or, just unload the thing and move forward...

    Good luck!  Mitch

  • Did you actually ask for repair shop recommendations without disclosing your location?  You’d be lucky if someone responded that actually had a specific recommendation in your area.
Zero chance of you don’t say whether you’re in California or Carolina.

  • In a lot of cases the seams on the trim of the slideouts can leak and lead to rotting floor. The materials used don't take long to absorb moisture and rot. I would think you'll need to pull any furniture and the floor covering back to inspect the total damage. Aside from finding the leak and fixing that (which may also be in the walls) you'll need to replace the flooring. If you're lucky it's small and you can do a patch repair. Sometimes - depending on the extent of the damage -  the whole slide needs to be pulled and the entire floor replaced. You won't know that until you know the extent of the damage.
