Thanks to all for finding the manual.
The charger is set to 24V 30A so I guess from what Mexicowanderer says that my charger is not up to the task. Explains why the batteries aren't getting charged.
The batteries say 115MINS @ 75AMPS on them. Does that mean it would take 115minutes @ 75AMPS to charge them?
If yes, there is no way our charger is going to charge 8 of them in a timely manner.
The system isn't working well. It is probably 5 years old. The batteries were allowed to get too low and I bet the water wasn't checked regularly and got low also. Who knows if the batteries have much life left in them.
When I got up to the cabin and fired up the charger the volt meter was showing 25-26V and 60 minutes later it was still showing about that.
When I turn off the charger it drops to 24.5 or so immediately and then drops into the 23s awhile later. One bank was a bit more than 12V and the other was in the low 11s.
I don't really know how much power we really need. I suspect that we have more batteries than we need and not enough charger for them. At this point I'm considering dropping down to 4 batteries or maybe just 2 (12V) and seeing how the system works. At that point get new batteries and or a bigger charger.
Thanks for the info. The charger we have is physically large. What do people use for charging an 8 battery setup in an RV?
