Need help replacing charging circuit solenoid.

Last weekend I was driving down the road and my voltage started dropping off while driving. I assumed I had a bad alternator, so I stopped and bought a new one and replaced it, and it did not help. ...

I am saying whacking the relay (solenoid) made the connections inside work.
It maybe wise to replace it! I don't like to throw parts at a problem, but in this case it could be worth it.
