need some electrical help...

ok guys heres the deal. the squeal is coming from the propane sensor (only when i unplug the trailer from shore power.) but...when i first unplugged, this time it took a few minutes to start squealing. the red light is on on the propane sensor, indicating it time to replace. it will not mute when i press the mute button. the batteries initially looked ok, but as soon as it started squealing, they looked dead, with widely different readings - the inverter indicated 13.2 volts, but the solar panel indicated 4 volts. i hooked the battery charger up to the batteries and it indicated something in between, but it would not charge - it just shuts down and indicates an error. also, the fuse from the battery looked melted (the plastic) but it was tough to see if was broken - when i pulled it out that basically destroyed it. i tried to put another one in, but it was very difficult since the fuse holes seem a bit jammed up. discuss...

My carbon monoxide detector squeals when battery is low.

The part when you say you turn on a light switch and the squeal stops is the really strange part.

I would also check all the battery cables and connections for corrosion. Bad ground??

When you unplug shore, and the inverter is on and trying to invert but the battery voltage is too low, BEEP.

the only thing plugged into the inverter is the tv/dvd, but they have not been turned on (I DONT THINK!). but again, the trailer has been plugged into the house power since it was last used 6 weeks ago.

i will have to wait until this afternoon to check the things you guys are suggesting, then i will report my findings.

My carbon monoxide detector goes off when the voltage is low, usually about 2 AM. My inverter low voltage (10.5 v) isn't that loud.

Does the light illuminate when you turn it on and stop the squeal?
What is the battery voltage when you unplug for a few hours?

If anything is plugged into the inverter and running or drawing current, it will continue to drain the battery.

Without being there with a meter, the dead/dying battery is just a theory.

what is the relationship between the inverter and the dead battery?

If you have an inverter, turn it off and unplug anything that is plugged into it. Then try unhooking from shore power again and see if it still makes the squealing sound.
