Through our own error, we fried several appliances on our last trip with our fiver. Have been able to repair every single thing EXCEPT the microwave. This was an OVER-THE-RANGE Magic Chef Model MC02212ARB manufactured in Jan 2006 and was only 22 3/8 inches wide. We have EXHAUSTED our search for a replacement OTR microwave. Our 2006 Cardinal 5th Wheel with rear kitchen has only 25 3/4 " space over the range with NO wiggle room. We cannot even find a replacement at RV salvage shops across the country! So we are now going to have to install a vent hood over the range and modify the cabinet above to accommodate a build-in microwave. (Essentially a counter-top microwave with a trim kit). Now we are having a problem finding a range hood that is 12v AND non-vented. We have NO external vent over the range. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.Thank youIf it's not one thing, it's another.

Check the wall for a stud and if none is in the way, install a vent for the new range hood.

I'm sure you did, but I have to ask. Did you check the fuse on the Magic Chef?

You can change out the hood fan with a 12vt computer fan.

If your non-vented hood is like my RV non-vented hood, I'd just replace it with a light. The fan is set up to pull the air through a little grease filter, and then discharge it underneath the hood again. It makes a lot of noise but otherwise doesn't seem to accomplish much of anything productive.Installing a vented hood (which requires putting a vent hole in the wall, of course), as Scott suggests, is not a bad plan at all. You could also possibly duct it to an output grille somewhere near your new microwave installation to circulate the air back into the RV assuming the new hood has a grease filter as they generally do.

Two suggestions. ONE.. Don't worry about exact replacement. RV microwaves fall into 2x2 categories1: "Built in" this is a standard microwave like you might get at Best buy, My Dometic built in is really an LG (Lousy Goods) and thus never worked till I did a bit of re-design (Never had an LG that worked).In this case you'd have to build a new facia for it (mounting bracket) but any good tin-smith (Heating and cooling contractor) can do that easily.2: Sits on a shelf.. Nuff said about thosethe other twoBuilt into a vented compartment No special work need be done hereBilt into a NON vented compartment (Vents via the front panel) You may need to see that tin smith to design a new exhaust air channel for it. But in all cases the actual microwave is an standard Best-Buy type.

About 5 years ago I replaced our OTR microwave when it died.

I made and mounted a shelf where the microwave was before (it hung from above). Then I bought a regular microwave from Wal Mart and put it on the shelf. When we travel, the microwave is taken off the shelf and put under the bed.

For the vent, I bought a 12V vent hood with a light on ebay. The vent is mounted to the bottom of the shelf. Since the OTR microwave vent didn't vent outside, I cut a vent slot in the wall and mounted a standard RV range vent exhaust cover.

Thank you, friends, for all your comments. We are DEVOURING every suggestion. Please keep them coming. Yes...the microwave is SMALL for an OTR and in our search we have come to realize that the newer campers that DO have OTR microwaves are using the larger standard size of 29-30". Since the RV ranges are NOT that wide, the cabinetry is built with a wider space and the microwave is actually wider than the stove. We still have a couple of salvage places on the west coast we are trying to contact (a dream-come-true would be to find an OTR microwave that would fit) but in the event that we do not find one, we WILL have to do the hood and the build-in. MUST have a fan as the stove is somewhat in a corner and the fan in the hood DOES help circulate heat that builds up when we are using the stove top. Currently we have no external vent. The microwave was NON-VENTED. (Circulated the air back into the room) Now I am having trouble finding a VENT HOOD that is non-vented AND 12v.

Oh...and yes, we checked the fuse. We actually accidentally plugged into 220 and the microwave REALLY fried. Afraid we burnt up more than just the circuit board in it!

So sorry I didn't notice the size requirement! That is a really oddball for sure! Not much bigger than a Toaster Oven!

Is there an Electronics Repair facility that can figure out what needs to be replaced?

That model number is not the same as mine ,which admittedly was on clearance !
Mines a MCO160L/WF pretty sure it was $99 bucks at the time!

My experience has been RV company's don't use conventional OTR microwaves they use a small around 900 watt countertop model and the face/surround is just screwed to it.

Home Depot in Canada , have the Magic Chef over the Range Microwave for less than $100 cad . They may even have a combo Micro/ Convection .
I have repaired the Sharp combo in My RV and have replaced the Panasonic MW in Our House with a Magic Chef!
All three brands are essentially identical ! The MC is by far the cheapest!
The mounting plates vary slightly , the one used in the RV is actually sturdier than the ones in the house.
