That sounds like a good idea. I too want to be able to run either one or both panels. I recently bought a blue sea 4-way switch, thinking I was going to split my bank, but decided not to, so I can re-purpose the switch. Thanks for the idea.
I also like your plan to use a terminal block for stepping down the wire gauge; as opposed to simply reducing the number of strands in the heavier gauge cable. I may have to employ this idea as well.
