newbie trying to build solar system on a budget

Yeah, go with weight, the heaviest is the best. There may be more AH's in a lighter battery but there will be more plate in the heaviest.

Have you looked at using 6V GC2 batteries? They have the most bang-for-buck with solar systems. IIRC, I paid a little over $80/battery at Sam's club. With the module sizes you've posted about, two 6V's would be a good fit.
