No generator power when running but shore power is fine.

Hey all, I have a Keystone Fuzion 310 toy Hauler with a Cummins Onan 5500 Built in generator. When I fire up the generator, the converter doesn't kick in but yet when I plug it up to shore power, the converter kicks in and everything is fine. I checked the circuit breaker on the converter and it has not been tripped. I also checked both breakers on the genny and they were not tripped either. Is there a fuse somewhere I can check that may be blown? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks for your time,
Scott

There is a transfer switch (electrical box) where the shore power cords goes in, generator power cord goes in and then power cord comes out going to main dist. panel.

When one of the power in is hot the ATS swaps and allows power out.
You get power just fine on shore but not on gen.
ATS is stuck on shore side. Bad relays. bad contacts.

Ok thanks, now I'm getting it. Is it possible you can tell me where to locate this switch?

  • Then it sure sounds like your transfer switch has gone bad.

Had the RV since new and never had to manually switch over. I always just started the generator and everything automatically switched over.

What about the transfer switch? If no automatic transfer switch there would be some manual device you would need to select. Has it ever worked? If not, do you need to manually plug your coach into the inverter? A switch you need to select?

No switch it's automatic. It's a 2012 Fuzion and when you start the genny the converter always kicked in automatically.
