non powered 8000 btu heater with through the wall exhaust

Just what a boondocker who wishes to heat with propane needs. It even has a thermostat. It is available at Amazon for a lower price--but the write up at Home Depot is better. I believe it is lower cost than the unvented (and hence UNSAFE) wave catalytic units.

  • Hi Jim,

I tried a 1500 watt fan based heater in the cupboards with zero success at freeze protection. What does work (at least down to -37 C {-34 f}) is dual window fans to replace the return air grill. The wattage needed dropped from 1500 down to 27. In my case it also pressurizes the duct work keeping other areas safe, too.

If possible that would be nice for keeping the plumbing in that area warm.
  • I had taken out my old furnace to free up room under dinette seat. I wonder if I could mount it in the seat frame toward the inside of TT and run a vent to the outside.

  • Excellent find. Thank you. I'll be looking into that one. Half the price of the Cat Platinum.
  • Note that the manufacturer states that the minimum wall thickness MUST be 4.5" (don't know why?). So for typical RVs you'd have to furr out the inner wall some.
  • Had I not gone over board with the solar and battery to make sure our furnace kept running I would have had one of these mounted in one of two spots in our 25 ft trailer. I would have made room if I had too.

I've seen the wave heaters mounted on a door with flexible exhaust tubes. Couldn't that be done with this?
  • How many small floorplan rv are out there with that much open wall space?

My 20 footer has something on or near every exterior wall.
  • Hi Don

That looks wonderful. It's about time we saw a modern version of the gravity furnaces and this one looks thinner than the ones from the older RV's I remember.
