Norcold fridge Chimney Rust Scale

Howdy, My Fridge gas flame keeps getting shut off when rust scale from the chimney falls on the flame outlet holes. Can I clean it out and replace any parts with stainless steel parts (baffle I think) to get rid of the rusting. PS> The roof cover looks ok and when the fridge is running on gas while not driving (scale falling) it stays running great. Thank You

  • Because my Norcold hated me it was a waste of time but I renewed the chimney pipe with a pipedescaler and drill then used automotive exhaust header spray paint Iinside and outside. Stuff is thin and watery. Took six coats to cover things. But it worked and looked like new after 2- years.
  • Just beat on the rusty chimney a while, then vacuum up the mess, and its good to go till your next annual cleaning.
Yes, you're supposed to do it every year,.....or more.
  • Yes. If your mechanically inclined.

I pull mine out last year after it gave us headaches while on vacation.

Sat it on a short bench and removed all electrical and electronics, cleaned and re-taped the insulation, then sanded and re-painted the cooling system.

Cleaned and descaled the burner tube and vent. Tested the system and re-assembled.

The issue with ours was a failed cooling fan. Required because it's in a slide.

I used emory cloth on the end of a dowel rod in a drill to knock the rust out of the burner tube. I believe it was about an inch in diameter. Pulled the spiral heat deflector out and removed the carbon build-up.

I used heat resistant paint and let it run down in the tube.

We were down in south Georgia a few weeks ago in some hot temps and it's really helped.

    Good luck with the task.
