Norcold. Is it possable

I seam to have a unique problem. My norcold 1200 lrim works great on electric but not so well on propane. I have cleaned the orifice, the burner, the flue and baffle. Changed the propane regulator and added 4 120m fans to the top ven. My flame is strong and blue. Disconnected the thermistor and bypassed the thermostat. I checked the air flow to make sure it goes up the coils. The freezer Temps on electric runs -8. The refrigerator temp at the fins is 22 with the temp setting at the highest point 9 with an outside temp of 85 deg. Now on propane the freezer is 5 to 7 degrees with the refrigerator at the fins is 40. It was suggested since it runs great on electric, that there may be a crack in the weld between the flue and the pipe which heats the liquid not allowing the heat to transfer efficiently . In the countless hours of research I have done i have never come across this information before and how to remedy the problem. I know u can't reweld the cracks but how about several large hose clamps and some thermol grease to get the heat to transfer.
Everything I have done i have learned from all the wonderfull people on this forum thank you
  • I just dropped my Unit off at CW in Dothan with the same problem, I will let you know what they find.. Mine is still under warranty.
  • 1. You changed the regulator but that does NOT always translate to the correct LP pressure. You need to verify the LP pressure at 11.5 inches W/C. Failure to do that just means you are spinning your wheels.
    2. Is the refer in a slide room? If so, that may mean the LP line is slightly kinked and not supplying the correct volume of gas to the refer.
    3. The USUAL cause of low performance with a separation in the Flue and ammonia pipe is on the 120 side, NOT the LP side.
    4. You do NOT state how old the refer is and if it has the original Norcold cooling unit.
    5. Has this always been a problem on LP or it just started this?
    6. All other items you have tried was futile as ALL the 120 and LP does is supply HEAT. As long as the HEAT BTU's are at spec, the controls react all the same on both 120 and LP.
    7. HOW did you clean the Baffle? Have you verified the baffle is in good shape and not burnt or melted. A Bad baffle will indeed cause low cooling performance on LP. The purpose of the spiral baffle is to dispurse the hot flame evenly on the boiler tube. Without a functioning baffle the flame would go straight up the Chimney and not transfer any heat. Doug

Service dept. stated that they have never seen this problem, the burner pressure etc. is good. Bottom line is a new ( since unit is under warranty) reefer unit..

IF your refer operates correctly on 120 but NOT on LP, replacing the CU is useless. Go to another Shop. It will be interesting how Norcold deals with this shop when they state it works on 120 but not on LP and they want auth to replace the CU. Doug
