Norcold N821 Inverter for AC use

Can anyone tell me what size inverter I need to run this refer on AC? I don't want to swap it out yet for a residential unit so I would like to have a inverter prewired and ready to go for that inevitable day. Thanks.

  • to run the Norcold you a 500w unit..it will use 360w

but to be ready to run a residential fridge
you need 1000~1500w CONTINUOUS load ability to handle the start up compressor surge
the residential will only draw 100~200 running, but has a large start current

the Norcold draws more running..but NO start surge..its using a heating element..

The N821 consumes about 360W in AC mode according to the spec sheet.

But it does run on LP gas also.

In either case it requires 1.2A of 12VDC power for the control boards.

Not really seeing a need for an inverter at all???

Dah... OK now I get what you're asking.

As stated the requirements vary depending on model but they can range any where from 1000W to 1500W. I did a 2000W unit myself.

  • Hi Pirate,

If you plan on swapping out to a residential fridge the inverter needs to be much larger than would be required to run the Norcold on 120 volt. It would be good to have pure sine wave, too.

A 1000 watt inverter may be adequate for a residential fridge.

I do run my Dometic on an inverter @ 120 volts. It draws 34 amps from the battery bank.
