Norcold Recall Need Help!

I have a 2006 Newmar Dutch Star 43 ft.I was called up by Thetford "Norcold" for a safety recall on my refrigerator. They told me to unplug it for safety reasons until they have someone authorized by Norcold to install the recall kit. After two weeks the Rv technician came and install the kit which consist of a sensor that was tied up with a radiator hose clamp to the hot pipes.{see picture)
After 3 days the refrigerator shut off and I can smell chemicals like ammonia in the middle of the night. The next day I found out that the pipe where they put the sensor leak. I wrote a letter to Norcold about what happened and called and they said that their duty is just to install the recall. I have the repair damaged and it cost more than $2,000. Norcold won't reply in writing, they have one of their recall staff named Cameron call me and tell me to just report it to their customer service which is very hard to contact. Anybody who can help me get to the right people who can help. This is unfair. They want to cover themselves with a defective unit and they won't guarantee their recall.

I would be talking to the folks that installed the clamp if pipe is leaking from where they "fixed" it.

We had a A/C gasket replaced by our rv dealer. He sent out his grandson who in the process of fixing A/C gasket walked on and broke our skylight. Next day Grandpa was out there fixing what grandkid messed up.

You don't understand the issue- the clamp is only holding a sensor against the tubing. There is absolutely no way it could cause a leak.

  • The Recall has been out for over 4 years. As Chris pointed out, the failure was a coincidence. Installing the hose clamp will NOT cause a rupture of the flue tube. The recall did its job---It shut the refer down when the ammonia leaked out and you found the cause of shut down--the refer leaked, which shut down the refer, which is what the recall is supposed to do. • The recall did what it was designed to do- shut the refrigerator off before it caused a fire. The timing of the failure was a lucky coincidence, as without the recall you might have been sifting through the ashes.

Not sure what you want help with though- an 8 year old appliance failed, well out of any warranty.
