Not an RV question - Backup power for a sump pump

Hi, This is not a RV specific question, but I thought this would be a good place to start. Every year in the summer, we always worry about the storms that pass through and the resulting flooding...

After our problems with super storm sandy and no power for 14 days, I hooked my 9000 watt generator to a transfer switch for easy power recovery. I need more then just sump pump. We have large freezer and fridge and garage doors use power. During storm sandy I had my generator wired with just cords but it worked. I was only person on my entire block (28) houses with power.
