Old Inverter

I was going to upgrade my solar system and had it all planned out when suddenly my truck needed several thousand dollars of work. I can still afford part of the upgrade but not the Magnum MS2000 inverter that I was going to get. I have another Inverter that I bought 6-7 years ago but never really used it. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with the Exeltech Sinewave 1100 watt Inverter. My old solar system was really jury rigged and I really never trusted it so I never turned on that Inverter. Any help would be greatly apprciated

Like Mex said - 1,100W will run everything except for microwave. Most items require less than 600W.

Your INVERTER is still available on-line... Can't be all that old haha. Looks like a good unit to use to me... Even has remote control...

I have a 600WATT PSW model and 1500WATT PSM model here in my setup. I do use the smaller 600WATT model for my Home Entertainment items and several deemed emergency items I want to always have on. The 600WATT model stays on all the time even when we are connected to Shore Power.

  • Hi,

I would still use the inverter that you have. I really do not use my built in 1500 watt Trace inverter / charger much, because my smaller inverters are much more energy efficient. I have a e-meter that measures the amperage going in and out very accurately. The Trace might be drawing 8 amps running the TV, VCR, and other things in the RV, then change to the 150 or 300 watt inverter plugged into a cigarette lighter, and it will drop the amps by about 3 amps. That big inverter will consume a lot of power just charging up those huge capacitors and such.

I ran the small inverter with factory installed #8 wire going up to my TV set.

The Trace is hooked up to 000 wire and 4 golf cart batteries.

You can buy reasonable priced solar panels for around $1 per rated watt here. SunElec.com

    Good luck!

  • I sure as heck would use it. What have you got to lose? Does the proposed Magnum have a battery charger while the old inverter doesn't? Except for a zap oven the 1100 watt unit should be able to handle most of the chores. I've seen smaller installs down here with Exels and they didn't seem to have scorch marks or hammer blows applied to them.
