Lean mixture.
Yep, that's the first thing to check. If you are running the genny at close to sea level while adjusted for high altitude operation (lean) that would do it. If your main jet is plugged, or, you have a vacuum leak in the intake, that would do it too, but check the altitude adjustment first since it's easy.

Why don't you guys rename the Forum Technical Support subforum and/or change the description so people realize not to ask questions about their rig problems there? - 1492Moderator

What year generator? The people at smokstak.com are very helpful, but you need to have your model number and serial number. Ignition could be points or electronic.
*Usually* popping is the result of a lean condition (not enough fuel). But it also could be electrical (usually points, if you have them). What is this $400 screw you dropped? - darsben1ExplorerIs the altitude adjustment on the bottom of the carb bowl set to the approximate altitude
- azrvingExplorerLean
- maryjoeyExplorerI start it once a month and let it run 5-10 mins.
Last year I had replace all the parts to get it to start cuz I made the mistake of not starting it often but I dropped a screw in the back is what the Cummings dealer shop told me and cost 400 to take it out and fix it - ksg5000Explorer IIWhen was the last time you changed the spark plugs? How often have you run the generator? (Onan's have carb issues if you don't use them monthly).
- dbblsExplorerSounds like water in the gas.
