If gas and it will run. Try running some carburetor cleaner. Shoot some straight down the carb.
I was thinking Seafoam may do the job. But, I'm curious if it had been running normal and the problems just started.
Or, did the OP just buy the unit and has not used the generator.
Carb cleaner and/or Seafoam would be a good place to start.
