Onan 7k gas generator remote run light flickering

We have 2015 Allegro Open road 36LA with 7K Onan generator (HHGJAB)

The remote switch by the driver will start and stop generator just fine. Sometimes the remote run light on the switch will go out then come back on later. Sometimes it just flickers. When the light is out the gen hours meter does not accumulate hours. The local run light by the generator is on when running as expected.

Has anyone had a similar experience and can you provide where to start looking. I suspect a ground problem someplace.

  • problems with remote control panel are usually bad connections where
coach manufacturer ties their wire harness to generator connector pigtail. this splice is usually 6-10 inches from connector plug at gen. probably will have loom or tape on it. they can get corrosion in splices, or pull apart. Otherwise, probably a loose connection at hour meter or switch.
  • the light and hour meter run by 12V. Sounds like 12V is intermittent getting to inside control panel. Could be a loose or broken wire or bad factory crimp on a connector. Take a meter, check the control panel at the genny while running to see what color of the wire is that is carrying the 12V. The wiring in the genny itself will probably be all white, an Onan special. But my remote uses different colors for the wires, just see what color should be leaving with 12V on it to get to the inside control panel.
