My first Onan was built in 1989 and sometime this century it started surging. I found a rebuild kit and cleaned and rebuilt the carb, no problem.
The first CARB carbs just had caps over the adjusting needles. I removed the caps first, rebuilt adjusted and it's still going strong.
Kit was an Onan and so dusty you could see where the seller wiped it off to read the part number. $27 at the time.
