Onan install... 5.5 or 6.5

I have been quoted to have an Onan 5.5 installed in my genny compartment... What are the pro's and con's of a 6.5 - vs - 5.5 ?
Is the extra KW's and rpm worth the $800.00 up charge?

  • Both will run at the same RPM, this is how you get your cycles in A/C current. You will get a more powerful engine and 1K. Generally, it takes 2 HP for every 1000 watts. Better to go bigger and not need than to be running at max all the time.

    5500 watt gives you 25 amps/220 volts
    6500 watt gives you 29.5 amps/220 volts

    on each leg
