Onan Quiet Diesel not running

10 k QD-- 350 hours, 4 years old, went to start it for monthly exercise and it fired up, ran about a minute then quit. Fault code 36 is displayed. Would not restart, actually ift does fire, but stops after a couple seconds. I had a new fuel filter handy so I put that in.. no change. When I go to prime the fuel system, I don't hear the fuel pump running, not sure how quiet it might be. Any ideas ?

Since your coach is 4 yrs old, it is probably in date range where most of fuel pumps were defective, but those pumps typically would fail very early in life...usually within 50 hrs. would know more if you posted full genset model, spec, & serial number.
your symptoms sound like fuel delivery problem for sure.

    10HDKCA11506E Spec E Ser # - K120423776

The genset is on a slide which is good/bad. Makes it a bit easier to do normal maintenance, but the way they have the slide set up, it completely blocks the access plate for the pump ! I won't get to do anything on it for a week or so.

  • I know that Tiffin places a small inline filter ahead of the Onan filter. Why? I don't know. Mine stopped up and Cummins recommended that I replace it with a straight splice. I did this and troubles ended.

I don't have any idea about anybody else does this, but just information to consider.
  • Fuel Pump Amazon Airtex 11020 usually around $45 Exact pump that Onan uses.

Some fail as low as 50 hours...I carry a spare.

Arrrrgh they put an E in front use Airtex E11020 correct...and I will change my cut and paste file. :)
  • I would make sure the fuel pump is working first off. If it is equipped with an injector pump I would check to see if it is putting out fuel to each injector by cracking the line and turning the engine over. If not, then you would have a bad injector pump or a line stoppage.
  • Fault code36 is generally fuel delivery and an indication of a fuel pump failure or something in the fuel pump circuit
