Some slides require that extra boost from the battery to work smoothly. You can always substitute your truck battery by nosing up close to the trailer battery tray and a JUMPER SET to let your truck start battery help out some...
Be careful with POLARITY of battery cables and especially those cables just hanging where the trailer battery was connected. I would put sandwich baggies over them to keep from shorting out to frame ground somewhere. If they short out just for a small spark you will be looking for some fuses to replace in your trailer.
