If I want to get blinded - really awful dazzle, then I endure brand new cars coming at me with factory blue HID lamps on low beam. Doesn't matter - Cadillac - BMW - Chrysler 300 - Chevrolet Silverado, the dazzle is intense and I am talking about 2017 models and 100.00% of them.
I have followed cars that try and blink them down, only to get a strobe flash of their high beams. This is a case where reality trumps conjecture. Overloaded vehicles and mis-aligned headlamps can skew the reality.
But for me, my vision, yellow nor blue does not cut it as far as being able to discern where tan colored asphalt meets yellow sand. I purchase 5K temperature LED chips from CREE and Sharp, and they are white - not sunlight - not sunlight grade color rendering, but pure white light.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, at my last ophthalmology appointment, the doctor recommended I wear polarized eyeglasses to minimize the insane blue glare of new car headlights. I hope they work. Having not been blinked down by oncoming drivers is enough proof for me as far as my lamp light scatter is concerned.
However a CAVEAT...
The LED headlight craze will eventually attract purveyors of garbage. It might pay to peruse existing brands and manufacturers for proven performance. As far as the fan issue is concerned, I too muse ramifications of lifespan. I have no idea what these guys use. Ball bearing fans would be the best but the heat sink fans are tiny. In my endless LED tinkering, I know for a fact that black anodizing increases effectiveness around 30% and surface area for a non amplified cooling radiator is roughly double that of a fan cooled radiator.
Lastly when I encounter Federal Regulations that are as nuts as a ---- house rat I remember my tour of Washington DC, and an ambience that was indecipherable from a state mental hospital.
I can only pray those promised anti-glare eyeglasses work. Glaring Mercury Vapor grade headlamps will be around only as long as it takes for the first auto beancounter to come up with "bottom-line" LED headlights. Delicate - sensitive - expensive - high voltage lighting ain't where-it's-at.
