Outback IC

This amazing product should arrive this week. I'm tired of replacing inverters every 5 years. At 61 pounds I'll leave it on the basement floor.

Cotek inverter just up an died on me. It runs for about an hour, then just quits with no led indication. I took it apart and found nothing untoward.

Outback makes really quality stuff. I've had their 60a solar charger for years now without a hiccup.

It's darn hard to find a bad word about them.. from anyone who actually owns one. In fact, I never have.
  • The word LIGHTWEIGHT can be used in many ways.

If a person purchases anything and he chooses price as his sole guideon, grab a net and a tranq dart gun.

I discovered SIEMENS was the OEM provider for a Dodge radiator fan motor. A new OEM Dodge fan cost $150. The brand new SIEMENS motor I purchased cost $22 and the image close-up is undeniably identical to OEM. A Chinese copy costs $90.00. The Siemens motor is 100% made in Germany.

Outback has an awesome reputation. They experienced what this philosophy did for TRACE. Some folks do not bother to THINK. Have you any idea what shipping cost is on a 70 lb item? Or how much $$$$ is involved in a mere ten mile tow off the freeway? You don't get to work on your own rig 500-miles from home. Then figure out the cost of a 10-mile round trip to SCUMBAG Auto Parts to get your new lifetime warranty replacement. And the two days lost on your vacation.

Less than ONE PERCENT of lifetime warranties last more than three exchanges. The honorable lifetime warranty owners know the sucker will give up. My Trace 812SB is still going strong after TWENTY YEARS of part time use and SEVENTEEN YEARS of 24/7 use.

All OB IC's are heavy, so I guess they're sticking with what stays working over time.

Picking the cheapest one is an almost certainty of low quality.

Smart buy. I've said this over-and-over...shop by lowest price and pay three times over. Shopping for VALUE is not picking the cheapest price.
But picking the expensive one is no guarantee of quality either. WFCO converters are horribly expensive, and of mediocre quality, from what I've read. And my experience with WFCO was not the best.
  • If they're using an old school "analog" or hybrid design, the transformer is the main inductor for stepping up low voltage to high (inverting) and stepping down high voltage to low (for charging)

digital inverters operate at a lot higher frequency so they don't need a huge iron core inductor.
  • The transformer typically steps up or down the input or output voltage.

Thanks. I've tried middle-price and that doesn't work so well either. I hope it's the last inverter I ever buy.

By the way, maybe you can answer this. I asked what made it so heavy, and they said it was the transformer. Is that for charging?

I have never had enough money to buy the cheapest. When a person is ready to DUMP a car or RV onto some sucker and the parts to be replaced can trash a potential sale then buying the cheapest makes sense.

Those Michelins I purchased years ago have gone 5 times the mileage as the Wal-Mart outhouse-grade Douglas rags.

Lifetime Warranty means garbage as well. Velcro and wing nuts
