Outlets not working in 1977 dodge sportsman "vogue"

So I checked fuses and breaker box, everything looks good. I replaced outside outlet. Any other suggestions? I have never used the outlets in the month I have own the vehicle. Overall for her age she's in great shape so I wondering if there are any other simple procedures I can check myself.
  • Maybe you could check to see if there is a GFI outlet installed somewhere that popped and needs to be reset?

Sorry I forgot to mention I tried resetting with no success
  • I am going to ask... are you plugged in to shore power?

Now this is just a guess, but fridges and furnaces back in 1977 did not need power to keep running. There really was just a few lights that ran off the battery.
  • you are plugged into shore power "120v electricity" right ?

for 120v you need one of these
    #1 shore power
    #2 running generator
#3 DC to 120vac inverter, uses the house batteries to make 120v for watching TV / pc etc..
then you need to recharge the house batteries

a GFI will only reset if 120v is present, aka coming to the outlet

How are you keeping your batteries charged up ?

i remember you had a question about "extra battery space"
  • Snee,

    This is not a joke.
Vibration and 40 years of getting bounced around can loosen things.
Honestly, I have had similar problems that only took finding and tightening all the connections all along the line.
And there is another problem that I have repaired for others but not had myself. Most of the AC wiring was done with solid wire romex and the vibration of the vehicle has actually caused it to fatigue and break. This usually happen very near a terminal. Sometimes under the insulation, so pull on the wires to check.

  • The most common cause of this issue is the rookie RV owner not understanding the difference between 12VDC and 120VAC electrical systems.

Your regular outlets will not work unless you are plugged into "shore power" which is a slang term for household electricity.
  • Does the GFCI reset to the operational state? If not, it may be upstream of any of the other outlets, causing other outlets not to work. Also, check for additional GFCI receptacles in the RV. They are typically located around or under sinks and water piping.
