Oven on Suburban model SRNA3 will not stay lit!

The unit is about 4 years old.

The pilot will light just fine and the burner does too. After about 3 minutes, you can see and hear the pilot start to “flutter” and intermittently go on and off and then the pilot goes off for good. This shuts the burner down as I understand this is a safety feature, ie, when the pilot goes out, the burner shuts down.

Anyone know what might be causing the pilot to shut off? Bad thermocouple?

BTW, all other propane appliances, stove top burners, water heater, fridge, work fine.

Had a similar problem. Everybody pointed me to the thermocouple too. The fix didn’t help. A mobile RV repair tech replaced the manifold (behind the oven temp control knob). That solved the problem. Tech told me the hard part is getting the right manifold. Suburban uses several different manifolds on the same model oven.

I agree; my understanding is if the thermocouple is bad, the pilot will not light at all or stay lit. The pilot lights just fine and stays on forever. The problem comes up when you light the burner.

I've seen reference to the thing behind the oven control knob as being the problem too as you mentioned.

All propane appliances are off except the oven.

Just did another test. Pilot lights fine. Then burner lights fine. Then at the 4 minute mark, the pilot goes wonky and starts puffing on and off, then finally shuts off which in turn shuts off the burner.

You can actually hear the pilot when it's puffing on and off like it's starving for gas, then it goes totally off.

Cooktop lights fine, water heater is fine, fridge is fine. Tanks are full.

"Is the pilot flame close enough to the thermocouple?

Apparently it is; the pilot lights just fine and stays on as long as you would like. It's only when you light the oven burner that the problem comes up. Pilot goes out after about 3 minutes which in turn kills the burner by design.

BTW, I read a thread about these having and undersized orifice that the mfg was aware of. Don't know if that's it. With the pilot working fine on its own, I think we can rule out the thermocouple.

We've had the trailer a little over 4 years and this has happened the last couple times out.

    Thermocouple fix

Thanks, but I'm beginning to wonder if the thermocouple is the culprit. The pilot light stays on just fine as long as you want it to. Wouldn't the thermocouple be working OK if the the pilot stays on?

You are correct, a bad thermocouple will keep the pilot from lighting at all. Is the pilot flame close enough to the thermocouple? To me it sounds like low gas pressure, or possibly a problem with the pilot orifice. Is the tank full, or at least not near empty?
Is the pilot flame strong when nothing else is running? How about with all the cooktop burners (but not the oven) on? I would suspect the regulator.
