Parallel Hondas

I have the Honda EU2000 and am considering buying a Honda Companion to get the power to run AC.

My question is about the parallel cable kit. Do the wires in the kit pass current at 12V to the Companion from the EU2000, and then the inverter the Companion inverts this power to 115V?
  • I had planned on getting a 4000 watt generator from Harbor freight, ( I have one at home and it has run all but the heat pump) the 230 volt outlet is all that I thought i would need for a TT. I have seen ads for the 2k honda's and Champions at more cost than my single 4k Champion and never understood why go the extra cost or hassel unless the inverter operation was more stable, so was asking,,,,

No longer necessary to parallel two 2K gensets or run a larger 3K to power your A/C ... instead of wasting $$$$ to buy a second EU2000i spend far less on a soft starter kit for your A/C unit, such as the Micro-Air Easy Start Soft Starter Kit. :)

Search rv.net for Micro-Air Easy Start and you'll come up with discussions like this.

What is a 'standard' 4kw generator? 230v power doesn't do me any good.

When 2 generators aren't needed, you just deal with one.

  • I'm curious OP, why would you think that is how it works?

    No!

The second Honda senses the wave form cycle of the first one and syncs with it
There is ONLY 120vac on those wires

The Honda alternator aka generator head, is high voltage DC
The inverter electronics change this to 120vac
Any 12v is in the little bitty 8 amp external charge port
  • You asked if it passed 12v. A 1000w load at 12v is a lot of amps.

Did I not understand your question?

Assuming a 2000w load shared, that would mean the one generator would be passing 70amps which would be a pretty big wire.

    70A of 12V?
  • No. I made my own parallel kit, and it has nothing to do with 12v.

That said, perhaps things have changed. You could google up a schematic which would tell you for sure.
