You talk about constant current settings, Dang few of the devices under discussion have that ability.. Some may have current limiting but like my Progressive Dyanmics 9180, that's 80 amps.
I have designed and built a constant current battery charger, it is for AA cells (NI-CAD) and outputs a specific current.. You can charge 1 battery, 10 (What it is designed for) or up to about 15 I think, The current will vary only a couple of mA over the range of batteries it can charge, max output is in the 24 volt range. But it is constant current.
Next to it is a 13.6 volt by 3 amp and a 5 volt by one amp (all in the same box) it was originally used to power a radio (Save for the 5 volt which I stuck in there cause... Well,,, I needed a 5 volt supply)
