when the unit is plugged in, no connection of the output to load.
The idea of alpha and beta is to create a system in which the alpha may be purposefully shut down leaving the (lower voltage) beta operating and regulating at a lower finish voltage. Some may moan "Oh do this with a single unit and switchable voltage divider". I moan right back "This leaves a person without an emergency back up unit".
BFL the cheapos have ZERO overwattage protection. This is why I am going to stage them Alpha and Beta (actually 2 of each). The cermet pot replacements will allow individual unit voltage tweaking while the master multi-turn will sweep all four units individual voltage settings as a gang either up or down.
Yeah it's work, the individual cermets have to be tied into the master 10-turn which in turn will be connected to the charger output after the rectifiers. The 10-turn will see the averaged voltage.
By luck of the draw a pair of chargers will drop out after 13.7 volts. The remaining (I hope only 2) chargers will advance from 13.7 to flooded (14.8) or VRB (14.4) volts. as dialed in on the 10-turn. The neat thing is, I can set the 10-turn voltage before I connect anything to the batteries.
It's either going to end up a 100 amp or 125 amp charger. And yes, it will have a 6-hour spring wound timer. The on-on-on switch has no off position. The six hour timer will be the power switch. Keep in mind this is a Battery Charger not a converter. And the principal design is to put as close to 100% full amperage in an AGM battery as fast as is safe. The 31 Lifeline will swallow 80+ amps without a burp and the power may last 15 minutes at a stretch. It's a stupid race few of you have to endure.
