We seem to be talking about two different worlds here so my experience isn't perhaps applicable to mex's gizmo situation, and he would certainly know.
Just to finish off my tale, here is a sequence taken with the Vectors that show what I was trying to describe is typical. Comes out the same way when using other than just a bunch of Vectors too, such as a converter, solar and a couple of Vectors.
Starts off as before, all four going near max amps (the 35s max's were different between 35.4 and 33.5) Some photos blurry.

Then with the 20 amper yanked

So once all the more or less 14.6 older Vectors finished one at a time, that left the higher voltage 14.8 VEC still at 40.4 which started to taper as soon as the others had stopped, following the battery acceptance curve on down to when I stopped the recharge.
Nowadays I just use my PowerMax 100 amper, the 40a VEC, and solar all at once. It works the same way.
