On my Chevy Silverado, there is a metal piece that contacts another when the brake is on. My piece broke, and it did exactly what yours is doing.
My solution was to pull the metal piece back enough to slip a piece of wood under it. This broke the circuit and didn't affect the functionality of the brake at all.
If you're is a GM product, you can order the replacement online from Rock Auto and you're golden (after fighting with it for 45 minute and cussing at the engineers who designed to poorly in the first place)!
