Late to the party, here. I just came across this while on a search for another topic, but a thought occurred to me. (I know, I know... I never thought it possible either.)
I hadn't noticed anyone mention it, but to my knowledge, AGMs run at higher operating voltages than flooded batteries. So we can't use the same figures for 50, 90, 100% SOCs, etc.
Therefore the bank may have actually begun the charge at something more like 40% or what-have-you.
With a low rate of charge, i.e. 55A for a 300A bank, as Sal has rightly suggested, we are already looking at an extended bulk phase where any charger should perform well. Then you add to it the lower beginning SOC and that makes for a potentially long bulk.
I'm interested to hear some thoughts on how this bodes for both the PD and the AGMs in question.
